34-year-old AIIMS doctor dies of suspected drug overdose in Delhi – Delhi News

Raj Ghoniya, a neurosurgeon posted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), died, allegedly by suicide, on Sunday.

The doctor is suspected to have died of drug overdose as some used vials of medicines and syringes were found next to his body in his home in south Delhi’s Gautam Nagar, police said.

Ghoniya was from Rajkot in Gujarat and worked as a neurosurgeon at the Trauma Centre at AIIMS. Police said that a suicide note was recovered from his house and Ghoniya didn’t blame anyone in it.

According to police sources, there was a dispute going on between the AIIMS doctor and his wife. On the occassion of Rakshabandhan, his wife had gone to her home.

Police said that they received a call at around 2 pm, following which they rushed to the spot and found him in an unconscious state. He was rushed to AIIMS hospital, where he was declared dead.

Further investigation is underway, they added.
