US Presidential elections: JD Vance likens Kamala Harris with Jeffrey Epstein in live debate over inflation

Republican Vice President nominee JD Vance launched a scathing attack on Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, saying turning to her for tackling inflation would be like putting notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in charge of anti-human trafficking policies.

Vance also accused Harris and the Democratic campaign of “doubling down” on what he described as the failed policies of the current administration, signalling a continuation of economic mismanagement in the United States.

“Giving Kamala Harris control over inflation policy, Shannon, it’s like giving Jeffrey Epstein control over human trafficking policy. The American people are much smarter than that,” Vance told “Fox News Sunday” anchor Shannon Bream.

The clip of Vance attacking Kamala Harris with an analogy of Jeffery Epstein soon went viral on social media.

“They don’t buy the idea that Kamala Harris represents a fresh start. She is more of the same. It is doubling down on the failed policies of the [current] administration,” the Ohio Senator said.

Jeffrey Edward Epstein was an American financier and sex offender. Epstein was initially arrested in Florida in 2005 for paying a 14-year-old girl for sex. Dozens of other underage girls accused him of similar sexual abuse.

Vance’s inflammatory remarks came as he appeared visibly agitated over recent polling data, which indicated Vice President Harris leading former President Trump both in key swing states and across the nation.

According to an ABC/Washington Post/Ipsos poll released on Sunday, Harris held a 4-point lead over Trump among likely voters, marking the first time this election cycle that she has outpaced him beyond the margin of error.

Donald Trump’s running mate even attempted to downplay Harris’s strong performance by citing other polls that he claimed showed her support now growing in comparison to that of the former US President.

“We can’t worry about polls,” Vance stated, dismissing the polls as a media tactic aimed at “driving down Republican turnout and sowing discord among Republican voters”.

“I’m telling you, every single person who’s watching this, the Trump campaign is in a very, very good spot. We’re going to win this race. We just have to run through the finish line,” he claimed.

Last week, the Indian-origin US Vice President unveiled a series of proposals aimed at easing the financial burden on working-class families struggling with rising costs. Her plan includes implementing a national ban on “price-gouging”, introducing a $25,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers, and enhancing the child tax credit to $6,000, among other measures.
