HYDERABAD: US-based magnetic sensing and power IC solutions provider Allegro MicroSystems has set up a research & development (R&D) facility in Hyderabad with plans to scale up its headcount to 500 in the near future from nearly 100 currently.
The new R&D centre will be a centre of excellence (CoE) on analog and mixed signal design, verification and validation for the EV, automotive, and robotic automation markets, driving advanced technological development and positioning Hyderabad as a leader in emerging technology solutions.
Allegro MicroSystems said it’s decision to expand operations into Hyderabad aligns with the city’s robust infrastructure, skilled talent pool, and supportive government initiatives.
Allegro MicroSystems is a key supplier to top automotive brands like BMW and other leading EV manufacturers with expertise in battery management, EV powertrain, future mobility solutions and autonomous vehicle solutions.
With India focusing on EV adoption, this expertise will help Telangana build the technological capabilities needed to support the booming EV manufacturing sector in both the state and the country, Telangana IT & industries minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said after a meeting with the leadership team from Allegro MicroSystems led by its CEO Vineet Nargolwala.
The company’s senior vice presidents Suman Narayan and Max Glover too were present on the occasion.
“India is on the verge of a semiconductor revolution and the shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) will further drive semiconductor demand, as EVs require significantly more chips than traditional vehicles,” said Sridhar Babu.
“Currently, India imports over 90% of its semiconductors. Our government’s mission is to build a robust, self- sustaining semiconductor ecosystem. Telangana is fully committed to creating an environment that advances this vision, welcoming global leaders like Allegro to Hyderabad as strategic partners in this transformative journey,” he added.
The minister said the investment by Allegro has the potential to empower local entrepreneurs to localise solutions in battery management, EV powertrains, future mobility, and autonomous vehicle technologies, supporting India’s drive towards an electric vehicle future.
