The banned insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) claimed on Thursday that they have placed 19 bombs across Assam to disrupt the Independence Day celebrations.
In a press release, the outfit stated that bombs have been planted in several areas in Upper Assam, such as Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Guwahati, as well as Lower Assam.
Meanwhile, police said they have detected “suspicious items” from multiple locations, including Sivasagar and Nagaon.
The militant group, in their statement, said that they wanted to demonstrate their strength by carrying out bomb explosions today across the state from 6 am to 12 noon at various locations. However, due to technical reasons, the ULFA has called off the operation.
The outfit has requested the recovery and deactivation of the explosives through a press release so that they will not pose a threat to the general public.
ULFA also listed the following locations: DTO Office, ONGC Number 5 Gate, Dibrugarh Lakuwa Tinali, ASTC, Lakhimpur ASTC, SP Office, Laluk Daily Market, Barghat Police Outpost, Nangav Medical College, Guwahati Dispur Last Gate, Gandhi Mandap, Narengi Army Camp, Pan Bazaar, Jorabat Overbridge, Bhetapara, Maligaon, Rajgarh, Nalbari, and Rangia in Sivasagar district of Assam.
ULFA has also informed that the exact location of the bombs planted at three places in Tinsukia district, including Panitola, one place in Dibrugarh district, and one place each in Golaghat and Sorupathar could not be confirmed.
