20-year-old leg-spinner Priya Mishra put in a stunning show as India A beat Australia A by 171 runs in the third and final One-Dayer. On Saturday, August 18, Minnu Mani’s women managed to avoid a series whitewash. Mishra finished with figures of 5-2-14-5 as India A bowled their opponents out for 72 in 22.1 overs while defending 243.
Fast bowler Soppadhandi Yashasri gave India the breakthrough after dismissing opener Charli Knott. In the very next over, Meghna Singh accounted for the wicket of skipper Tahlia McGrath. Riding on India’s brilliant start, Priya took charge and only turned the screws on the opposition.
The leggie started by picking up the wicket of Maddy Darke after which she removed Nicole Faltum. Priya also dismissed Tess Flintoff, who holds the record for the fastest fifty in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) off 16 balls.
Mishra also got support from her captain Minnu, who picked up two wickets to finish with figures of 2.1-0-4-2. Saika Ishaque got the wicket of Katie Mack.
Tejal, Raghvi shine
Earlier, India A put up a decent score of 243 for the loss of nine wickets. Shweta Sehrawat faltered as she bagged a golden duck. After India A were reduced to 43 for three following Uma Chetry’s dismissal, Tejal Hasabnis and Raghvi Bist restored sanity into proceedings.
The duo put on 104 runs for the fourth wicket before Kate Peterson separated them by dismissing Hasabnis, who made 50 off 66. Four overs later, Bist also perished after scoring 53 off 64.
Sajeevan Sajana and Minnu scored 40 and 34 respectively, helping India A put up a respectable score on the board. Maitlan Brown was the pick of the Australia A bowlers with figures of 6-0-39-3. Thereafter, Priya came to the party and ran through the opposition batting unit.
