Lucknow: KGMU on Monday launched a bedside X-ray facility for critically ill patients in its Centenary Hospital Phase I and II and the Trauma Centre’s Critical Care Medicine (CCM) department.
KGMU spokesperson Prof Sudhir Singh said 12 portable X-ray machines are operational and will enhance the convenience of patients and their attendants.
During an inspection, vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand had observed the challenges faced by patients and their families when moving to the X-ray room. To address this, she proposed the introduction of bedside X-ray services using portable machines. Some machines were procured through the hospital budget while others were already available, enabling this much-needed service.
Attendants are required to deposit the X-ray fee in advance, after which the technician will perform the X-ray at the patient’s bedside. This eliminates the need for patients to wait outside X-ray rooms, streamlining the process and offering greater comfort.
The portable machines will serve various departments, including radiotherapy, respiratory critical care medicine, neurosurgery, and others. Dr Anit Parihar, head of the radiodiagnosis department, said this facility will be especially beneficial for patients bedridden due to severe illnesses or injuries.
At KGMU, patients often have to go to different centres, such as the PRO office, Trauma Centre, and Limb Centre for diagnostic tests.
