At least two people were injured in an explosion in Bengaluru in what appeared to be a cooker blast, the police said on Wednesday. While the police ruled out the terror angle, a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reached the spot for cross-examination.

The explosion happened in Bengaluru’s JP Nagar near a branch of the Udupi Upahara eatery at 10 am on Monday. Two people, Sameer and Mohsin, were grievously injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment.

Both the injured men are from Uttar Pradesh.

The intensity of the explosion was such that it scattered household items.

“We have thoroughly checked and ruled out the use of explosives. It was a pressure cooker blast. The injured men are barbers. We have examined the investigation materials this morning and found no evidence of mischief. NIA officials are here to conduct a cross-examination,” a senior police official said.

The NIA team reached Bengaluru this morning and is working in coordination with the local police to determine the cause of the blast and assess the damage.

Earlier this year, an IED blast happened at the famous Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru’s Brookefield area. At least 10 people were injured in the blast.
