Bengaluru residents woke up to an “annoying Monday morning” as parts of the city were paralysed after heavy rain on August 12. Streets were flooded and residents grappled with severe chaos on their way to work as Bengaluru social media users expressed frustration by sharing pictures and videos of the waterlogged roads and huge traffic snarls.

The relentless downpour resulted in extensive waterlogging and caused traffic chaos for hours, bringing the city to an almost complete halt.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police issued several advisories and also cautioned commuters about the dangerous conditions on waterlogged roads. Despite these warnings, several people found themselves caught in the gridlock.

Several social media users recounted their experience on X. They shared how rain-induced chaos was most acutely felt during peak hours, particularly in the northern and eastern parts of the city.

One of the users recounted how he had boarded a bus from Electronic City to Silk Board at 5am, only to remain stuck in traffic in the morning, still far from reaching his destination at 8am.

“Public are stuck in traffic from Electronic City from 5 am. Yet to reach Silk Board. It’s more than 3 hrs. Can you manage the traffic better please,” he asked.

Notably, key areas such as the Outer Ring Road between Nagawara Junction and Hebbal, as well as Veerasandra on the Electronic City Road, were heavily impacted, news agency PTI reports.

Additional affected locations included stretches of Hosur Road, Bannerghatta Road, Marathalli, Karthik Nagar, Kalyan Nagar, Puttenahalli, Varthur Kodi, and Panathur Main Road.

Some residential areas and homes in low-lying regions were also inundated, with water flooding into properties and exacerbating the disruption, PTI reported, citing officials.

Several underpasses were also submerged, compounding the traffic woes.
