Ishan Kishan looked sharp on his return to red-ball cricket. Taking part in the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament 2024, the youngster showed no rustiness. Playing for Jharkhand against Madhya Pradesh at the India Cements Limited Cricket Ground in Sankar Nagar, the 26-year-old Kishan took three impressive catches.

It’s pertinent to note that Kishan had last played a red-ball match against West Indies back on July 20 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. In the 15th over of the opening day’s play against MP, Kishan took a catch bending down on his left.

Chanchal Rathore found an outside edge to give Vivekanand Tiwary his maiden wicket. Thereafter, Kishan helped off-spinner Aditya Singh get rid of the dangerous Shubham S Kushwah, who scored 84 runs off 171 balls with the help of six fours and a six.

Kushwah went for a square cut, but could only get an outside edge. Kishan could not take the catch in the first instance, but took the rebound. He finished off with an incredible catch down the leg-side to dismiss Ramveer Gurjar.

The batter got a feather and Kishan made a full-stretch on to his left to complete the catch. Kishan made a significant contribution as MP finished the day at 225 for eight in 89.5 overs. Shubham Singh, Saurabh Shekhar, Vivekanand Tiwary and Aditya Singh picked up two wickets apiece.

Ishan Kishan’s rough times

As far as Kishan is concerned, he was left out of the BCCI central contract earlier this year along with Shreyas Iyer. Kishan was removed from the annual retainership contract after they missed the majority of the ongoing domestic cricket season despite directives from the board and its secretary Jay Shah.

Kishan is yet to play for India this year, having last donned the national jersey in the T20I series against Australia in November 2023. Kishan, however, played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
