An 18-year-old boy died after an air conditioner fell straight on his head from the second floor of a building in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place at around 7 pm on Saturday, August 17 when the teen, identified as Jitesh Chadha, was sitting on a stationary scooter and talking with his friend. The outdoor unit of the air conditioner plummeted from above, hitting both the boys.
The victim’s friend, identified as Pranshu, who was standing next to him was also hit by the air conditioner and fell on the ground.
The incident was captured on CCTV, which showed two boys talking to each other near the building’s entrance. One boy was seated on a stationary scooter while the other stood beside him, chatting.
As they talked, an air conditioner unit suddenly plummeted from the second floor of the building, striking the boy on the scooter directly on the head before crashing to the ground. The impact was so severe that both boys collapsed immediately.
Both the boys were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared the 18-year-old brought dead. His friend, aged 17, is undergoing treatment for his injuries and is said to be critical, officials said.
The local police station at DBG Road registered a case and a forensic team was deployed at the scene to examine the cause of AC’s crash. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
