Delhi University, DU has released the much-awaited first round of seat allocations for undergraduate admissions, offering seats to over 97,000 candidates across various colleges.
With approximately 71,600 undergraduate seats available, the university has over-allocated by 36 percent to ensure optimal filling of seats. This approach aims to facilitate a smooth start to the academic session, which is set to begin on August 29.
The university has allocated seats based on a distinct Common Rank. In the first round of seat allocation, extra seats have been allotted to ensure optimal filling, to commence the academic session by August 29, 2024.
A total of 97,387 seats have been allocated in this round, excluding seats for performance-based programmes and supernumerary quotas such as CW, ECA, Sports, Ward, and Christian candidates, as per the university’s statement.
The university has instructed candidates to submit their fees by August 21. Admissions are being conducted for 71,600 seats across 69 colleges and departments, excluding supernumerary seats.
Admissions will be made across 1,559 programme-college combinations. According to records, 2,45,287 candidates applied for Phase-I of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS(UG)), with 1,85,543 completing Phase-II by submitting their preferences for program and college combinations. The university received a total of 1,72,18,187 preferences.
This year, the university has introduced a new feature on candidates’ dashboards, allowing them to view the cut-off details. It ranks that determine seat allocation based on their category and quota.
Candidates have until August 18 (Sunday) to accept the allocated seats.
It must be noted that candidates with the same Program-Specific CUET scores may have different ranks and having the same score as the cut-off does not guarantee admission, the university said in the statement.
DU UG ADMISSIONS 2024: COMMON RANK
The Common Rank is determined by applying updated tie-breaking rules, except for performance-based programmes and certain supernumerary quotas, including Sports, ECA, CW, and Ward categories.
This year, the university has revised the tie-breaking process due to the National Testing Agency (NTA) releasing raw CUET scores instead of normalised ones.
The new rules state that candidates with a higher percentage of aggregate marks in their top three subjects in Class 12 will be given priority. If the scores remain tied, preference will be given to those with a higher aggregate percentage in their top four subjects.
Delhi University (DU) has decided to admit an additional 20 percent of students in the General, OBC, and EWS categories, and 30 percent extra in the SC/ST and PwBD categories to maximise seat occupancy. However, to avoid overcrowding in classrooms, the current 30 percent reservation for “extra students” in the SC/ST and PwBD categories will be reduced to 15 percent in colleges where the withdrawal rate is below 5 percent.
