“England Men’s Test Captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out for the rest of the summer after tearing his left hamstring while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday. As a result of the scans conducted in Leeds on Tuesday, Stokes will miss England’s three-match Rothesay Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins at Emirates Old Trafford on Wednesday, 21 August. There will be no addition to the squad for this series,” the ECB statement said.
The board further added that the all-rounder will be aiming to return for England’s winter Test tour of Pakistan, scheduled to start in early October. The tour includes three Test matches in Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.
HOW DID BEN STOKES GET INJURED?
After the Superchargers were asked to chase down 153, Stokes came out to open the batting but had to retire hurt after facing issues with his hamstring. The all-rounder will undergo scans on Monday and it does not seem likely that he would get fit before England’s red-ball series.
Stokes felt some discomfort after he completed a single early in his knock. Immediately, he fell on the ground and threw his gloves off in frustration. Thereafter, the medical staff treated him, but he failed to recover and was carried off the park. Stokes was later taken towards an ambulance with the help of a stretcher.
“It doesn’t look great, unfortunately. I think he’ll be getting a scan tomorrow, and we’ll see how he is,” Harry Brook, the skipper of the Superchargers said after their seven-wicket win.
Stokes returned to the Superchargers dugout, but had to use crutches.
