A video of an intense encounter between two lions and two dogs in Gujarat’s Amreli has gone viral on social media.

The face-off, recorded on CCTV, took place in Thordi village, located approximately 76 kilometres from the Gir National Park, the only habitat of the endangered Asiatic lion in India.

The video begins with a lion approaching a gate from outside, only to be confronted by a dog on the other side.

Despite the inherent danger, the dog did not shy away; instead, it engaged in a brief but fierce clash with the lion. Moments later, a second dog joined the fray.

The situation became intense when another lion stormed into the scene, slamming the gate repeatedly, attempting to overpower the dogs.

The lions relentlessly struck the gate with their powerful paws, and in a final move, one of them managed to break the gate open.

However, the lions abruptly disappeared into a nearby bush, likely after sensing movement in the distance.

Remarkably, one of the dogs bravely ventured outside after the lions had left while a man, purportedly the security guard, followed it with a torch. The man inspected the area before locking the gate again.

Gujarat is home to 674 Asiatic lions, according to the 2020 census. While these majestic animals are primarily found within the Gir National Park, which is their last remaining sanctuary, their occasional ventures into human-populated areas often result in encounters such as the one recorded in Thordi village.
