Friends actor Matthew Perry’s death left many fans heartbroken. The 54-year-old actor died due to a ketamine overdose in October 2023. As details about his death emerge, the show’s co-creator Marta Kauffman said she wants the actor to be remembered for spreading happiness with Friends and not for the way he died.
Kauffman, while discussing her relationship with Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the iconic sitcom, remembered talking to him two days before his death. She told The Times, “About two weeks before [he died], he and I were FaceTiming, and he seemed really good.”
She continued to share how she wants the world to remember and celebrate Matthew Perry. “Two things come to mind [about how to celebrate him]: One of them is to donate to drug treatment centers — let’s fight the disease. And the second way is to watch Friends and remember him not as a man who died like that but as a man who was hilariously funny and brought joy to everybody,” Kauffman said.
Meanwhile, criminal charges have been filed against five people in connection with the death of Matthew Perry, law enforcement officials said on Thursday, August 15.
The defendants include two doctors, an assistant to Perry, and ‘Ketamine Queen’ Jasveen Sangha, who were part of “a broad underground criminal network” that distributed large quantities of the prescription drug ketamine to the actor and others, US Attorney Martin Estrada said.
“These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves,” Estrada said at a news conference in Los Angeles.
