Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh were the three Indian cricketers who took part in the Hundred Women’s 2024 competition. Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur, who played for Northern Superchargers and Manchester Originals in the previous seasons, did not take part this time around.
Deepti had a memorable time after she lifted the trophy with the London Spirit, who won the title after beating Welsh Fire in the final at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday. Mandhana and Richa, however, did not have the best of times in the Hundred.
Mandhana’s Southern Brave finished at the bottom of the table with three points thanks to wins in only one out of eight matches. Richa played for the Birmingham Phoenix, who finished a place above the Brave with seven points and a net run rate of -0.742.
Here’s how the Indian players performed in the Hundred Women 2024?
Smriti Mandhana
Smriti Mandhana did not have the best of times in the Hundred Women’s competition. In five matches, she scored 60 runs at an average of 12 and a strike-rate of 136.36. She scored 42 runs off 27 balls with seven fours against the Trent Rockets at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
Her knock went in vain as the Brave lost by 24 runs. She also pulled off a stupendous direct hit to dismiss Bryony Smith in the same match. Apart from that game, Smriti flattered to deceive throughout, failing to get into double digits three times.
Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma was arguably one of the standout players for the Spirit in the tournament. She scored 212 runs from eight matches at an average of 212 and a strike-rate of 132.50. Her top score of 46 not out came against Oval Invincibles at the Kennington Oval in London.
But it was her knock of an unbeaten 16 that played a massive role in Spirit lifting the title. She also hit the winning six off Hayley Matthews. With the ball, Deepti took eight wickets at an economy rate of 6.85 with a three-wicket haul to show for her efforts.
Richa Ghosh
Young Indian sensation Richa Ghosh played for the Birmingham Phoenix, and she had a torrid time as well in the championship. In five matches, the 20-year-old Richa racked up only 62 runs at an average of 15.50 and a strike-rate of 96.87.
She got a top score of 41 off 36 balls against Trent Rockets at Edgbaston in Birmingham. But the Phoenix went on to lose the match by three wickets. Richa did not have much to do as a wicketkeeper, having taken only a solitary catch.
