Veteran American actor Gena Rowlands died on Wednesday, August 14, at her home in Indian Wells, California. The acclaimed actor was 94.

Gena Rowlands’ death was confirmed by her son’s agent, per Variety. Earlier this year, her son and director Nick Cassavetes revealed that the three-time Emmy and two-time Oscar nominee had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

“She’s in full dementia. And it’s so crazy – we lived it, she acted it, and now it’s on us,” her son, who directed the film”, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Rowlands enjoyed a prolific career spanning decades, beginning on stage and television in the 1950s. She starred in numerous films, including award-winning roles in her husband John Cassavetes’ directorial projects.

Following her husband’s death in 1989, Gena Rowlands continued her acting career, often collaborating with her children who had become filmmakers.

She appeared in her son Nick’s directorial ventures, including ‘Unhook the Stars,’ ‘The Notebook,’ and ‘Yellow,’ as well as her daughter Zoe’s film, ‘Broken English.’
