T’puram: The power supply to SAT Hospital was restored by 7.30am on Monday. However, the blame game for the three-hour power outage has begun.
KSEB has made it clear that the fault was not from their side, and the major problem occurred when the generator failed. KSEB also pointed out major issues with the age-old electrical equipment used at the hospital as the reason for the power outage. The power utility said that it had alerted the hospital authorities in advance about maintenance works they are carrying out in the main line, and had informed of a two-hour power outage on Sunday evening.
Though none of the departments are willing to shoulder the responsibility for Sunday’s panic situation, the director of medical education has begun an investigation into the incident on a directive from the health minister.
Meanwhile, Dr Bindhu S, superintendent of SAT Hospital, said, “The power supply has been restored to normal from the generator system. The power connection was normalized from 7.30am on Monday as part of fully resolving the electrical issue.”
She said that the contactor switch on the panel board of the generator needs to be replaced, and it would be done by evening. It will be done after most hospital activities, including surgeries scheduled on Monday, are over, she added.
All precautions will be taken to prevent any such disruptions in future, said Bindhu.
Health minister Veena George, who visited the hospital past midnight on Sunday, said strict action will be taken over the incident that brought much embarrassment to the health department.
