Pakistan Test team’s head coach Jason Gillespie said that he would love to invite Arshad Nadeem to the cricket team’s dressing room. Arshad Nadeem created history by becoming the first-ever Pakistani to win an Olympic gold medal. He broke the Olympic record during the final of the men’s javelin throw final in the Paris Games. Arshad’s throw of 92.97m was crucial in him winning the Olympic gold medal. The Pakistani team players had also extended their warm wishes to Nadeem ahead of the men’s javelin throw final.
“We would love to invite Arshad Nadeem to the dressing room as well. I saw all the Shaheens cheering him on during the Olympics. Having him visit and share his gold medal with the team would be a fantastic boost, especially with the Olympic spirit still in the air. It was a wonderful moment, and we extend an open invitation for him to visit the dressing room,” Gillespie said on the PCB Podcast.
Can Arshad Nadeem inspire Pakistan cricket team?
The Pakistan Test team coach felt that Arshad’s meeting with the Pakistan players could be a huge morale and confidence booster for the players. Arshad was welcomed by the entire Lahore amid huge fanfare and has become the nation’s hero. In a country which has always been obsessed over cricket, saw a new hero emerge from the small town of Mian Channu in Pakistan.
Arshad also ended Pakistan’s wait of 32 years to win an Olympic medal and his good friend and India’s pride Neeraj Chopra, won the silver medal.
Arshad’s gold win an added pressure for Pak cricketers?
Pakistan Test team’s skipper Shan Masood was asked if Arshad’s gold medal win could turn out to be an added pressure rather than a source of motivation for the players.
“Does it put pressure on the team? I don’t see it as pressure but as a privilege. Representing Pakistan is a huge honor, and every day we play is a privilege. We should feel extremely proud and grateful to represent our country. Arshad Nadeem’s success motivates us to seize our opportunity to do something good for Pakistan,” Masood said on the PCB Podcast.
Pakistan’s last trophy win in an ICC tournament was during the Champions Trophy in 2017. The team will be hoping for change in fortunes in the upcoming marquee events.
