Jemimah Rodrigues looked in a cheerful mood as she departed for the West Indies to take part in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) 2024. The right-hander, who plays for the Delhi Capitals in the WPL, will represent the Trinbago Knight Riders. Shikha Pandey, her teammate at DC, is also a part of TKR.
Jemimah and Shikha will also be honing their skills under the legendary Jhulan Goswami, who was named as the mentor of TKR. Before leaving for the West Indies, Jemimah shared a picture with Shikha and Goswami with the caption, “Agla Station: West Indies. See you soon TKR.”
‘I am really excited’
Last year, Shreyanka Patil made history by becoming the first Indian to play in the WCPL. She also became the top wicket-taker in the tournament while playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Jemimah and Shikha, thereby, became the second and third Indians in the WCPL.
Jemimah said that he was excited to be a part of the Knight Riders, having already played international matches for India in the West Indies.
“This is the first time I’ll be coming to the WCPL. I’ve played for India in the Caribbean quite a bit, but I’m really excited that I’ll be representing the Knight Riders in WCPL. We all know the legacy that they have across the globe,” Jemimah had said on her appointment.
In TKR, Jemimah will also have former Australian skipper Meg Lanning, who led DC to back-to-back finals in the WPL. Capitals’ left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen was also roped in by the Knight Riders in the WCPL.
The Knights are scheduled to start their campaign on Thursday, August 22 against Barbados Royals at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. Jemimah last played in the Women’s Asia Cup where India finished as the runners-up after losing to Chamari Athapaththu in the final.
