Karun Nair dreaming of India Test return: I’m batting as well as I’ve ever done

Karun Nair said that he has not lost hopes of making a comeback to the Indian Test team. Nair is one of the two Indians to have scored a triple hundred in Test cricket, along with Virender Sehwag, who has two of them. However, since making a thunderous start to his career, Nair somehow lost his way and eventually lost his place in the national team.

Nair, however, said that he is batting “as well as I’ve ever done”. Nearing 33, Nair, who is currently playing for Mysuru Warriors in the Maharaja T20 Trophy, said that he wants to climb the stairs and reclaim his spot back into the national setup.

“I feel like I’m batting as well as I’ve ever done. I am in a good head space, I know where my game is. I am just making sure if I get opportunities, wherever it may be, the focus is on making the most of those chances so that I can climb up the stairs again,” Nair was quoted as saying on ESPNcricinfo.

“It’s still exciting to wake up each morning and dream of finding a way back to play Test cricket. That keeps me going. I would love to win trophies; we missed out in the Ranji last year. I will try to correct it this year,” he added.

Karun Nair’s career for India

Back in November 2016, Nair made his debut for India in a Test against England at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. In his third Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Nair scored an unbeaten 303 and helped India win by an innings and 75 runs.

But after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia in 2017, Nair was left out of the Indian team. In six Test, the right-hander scored 374 runs at an average of 62.33 and a strike-rate of 73.91.
