Mammootty and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s critically-acclaimed films ‘Kaathal – The Core’ and ‘Aadujeevitham’ won multiple honours at the 54th Kerala State Film Awards. On August 16, Saji Cheriyan, the Kerala Minister of Central Affairs, announced the state film awards in Thiruvananthapuram. Prithviraj Sukumaran won Best Actor, while Urvashi and Beena R Chandran shared the Best Actress award for their brilliant performances.

Many films, including ‘Thadavu’, ‘O Baby’, ‘Chaaver’ and ‘2018, amongst others won top honours bestowed by the state government. Nearly 160 Malayalam films were in contention.

It was rumoured that Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mammootty were the top contenders for Best Actor. Urvashi, Parvathy and Beena R Chandran were considered for Best Actress.
