Kolkata: As the district court starts hearing the R G Kar rape and murder case from Monday, 51 witnesses who implicated Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the case, are likely to be brought to the court in the next three weeks.
Of the total 128 witnesses, scientists from the Central Forensic Laboratories, professors from AIIMS Kalyani, members of the medical board formed by the Centre and officials of Kolkata Police will be questioned in the courtroom.
According to sources, the court will begin hearing the case with the deposition of the complainants — the parents of the victim. They registered the case with the Tala police station on Aug 9 at 11.45 pm.
“The court will start hearing the case with the deposition of the complainant. The court will hear the case for the next four days this week,” said Sourav Bandyopadhyay, the lawyer appearing for Sanjay Roy.
Kin and neighbours who accompanied the family members at the hospital and at the crematorium will also be asked to depose. According to CBI sources, four witnesses are likely to appear each day at the court this week.
The list of witnesses the central investigating agency has questioned includes four doctors with whom the victim had dinner at the seminar room between 12 at night and 1 am on Aug 9.
After their dinner was over, everyone except the victim went to attend their duties. The victim was first found by Soumitro Roy, one of the doctors with whom the victim had dinner the previous night. Two other lady PGTs were informed by Roy, who checked the condition of the victim.
Seven doctors with the CFSL New Delhi, three with the CFSL Kolkata, and one with the CFSL Chandigarh will also be questioned.
The CBI has also questioned nearly a dozen doctors from the Multi-Institutional Medical Board (MIMB) set up by experts of five institutions.
The agency has already received the primary opinion of the MIMB, and it said that five injuries found on Sanjay Roy’s body were consistent with the marks of resistance or struggle by the victim. The report also corroborated the presence of Roy’s saliva on the swab samples taken from the victim’s nipple.
The central investigation agency has also spoken to more than a dozen police officers, including two IPS officers with the detective department and home guard section of Kolkata Police. It has also spoken to the doctors with the medico-legal team and those who performed the autopsy on her.
