Bengali actors Saswata Chatterjee, Subhasree, Paoli Dam, TMC (Trinamool Congress) MLA and filmmaker Raj Chakrabarty, filmmakers Kousik Ganguly, Anjan Dutt and Rittick Chakroborty were out on the streets of Kolkata to seek justice for the 31-year-old trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Speaking to IndiaToday.in, the Bengali actors and filmmakers expressed their thoughts about the investigation.
Saswata Chatterjee spoke about the investigation and said, “I have the highest confidence in the Kolkata police, but we are still marching because we want justice.”
Actor Rittick Chakroborty expressed his interest for a fair investigation and remarked, “We want a fair investigation into this incident, and we want answers to all the questions that came to our mind. Women want protection and doctors’ demands should be met. I hoped Kolkata police could do it but Kolkata High Court has handed over the investigation to CBI now. I hope CBI can do it.”
Filmmaker and actor Anjan Dutt stated, “Our only demand is that the investigation should be fair. Justice is needed. People should be calm and wait for the investigation to get over because a hasty investigation will not be a proper investigation. We don’t mind if it takes time, but the investigation should be proper.”
Bengali actor Sourasheni Maitra, in her interview, added, “We often come home from work late at night, but we are somehow privileged because we have bodyguards but are they safe? This woman who was killed was also at her workplace, so how did this happen to her? Where is our security?”
Actor Paoli Dam expressed her shock and said that safety is everyone’s right. “This incident is shocking and sad. I cannot express how ashamed I am. Safety and well-being at work is my right,” she explained.
Last week, many actors and directors participated in protests that erupted across Kolkata. There have been protests in many cities across Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and other cities.
