On August 9 (Friday), a 31-year-old post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor was found dead inside the government-run RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. A civic volunteer was arrested on August 10 in connection with the case. The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday transferred the probe into the murder and rape of a trainee doctor in Kolkata to the CBI.
On Wednesday night, August 14, thousands of people from all walks of life, including students, professionals, and homemakers, took to the streets of Kolkata in a powerful demonstration. Carrying flaming torches and holding placards, they marched in unison to demand accountability and an end to violence against women. Similar protests also erupted in other major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and more, showing solidarity across the nation.
