Atletico Madrid’s new blockbuster summer signing, Julian Alvarez, believes that the La Liga giants will help him find a better version of himself and explained that his move from Manchetser City was aimed to find the best version of himself. Ahead of Atletico Madrid’s La Liga 2024-2025 season opener against Villarreal on August 19, Alvarez revealed that he is all set to take the most out of his new challenge in Spain.
Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup winning power striker Julian Alvarez completed his long-anticipated transfer from Premier League giants Manchester City to La Liga’s Atletico Madrid on August 12. Alvarez signed for the Diego Simeone-managed Spanish side for a whooping £82 million ($104.2 million), on a six-year-contract. Despite all his success with Pep Guardiola’s City, Alvarez had been actively vocal about his desire to play more minutes.
The 24-year-old explained at his Atletico Madrid presentation ceremony that despite his trophy-filled couple of seasons with City, Alvarez is eager to level-up his individual career. The Argentine believes that the best place to make that happen is Deigo Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
“I felt I needed a change in my career, looking for a new challenge, and I feel this is a club that gives me the space to have my best version as a footballer… My objectives are to try to achieve my best version and to grow as a person as well as to help win,” Alvarez said.
“I’d like to play, I’m always available in any position and as long as I’m on the pitch to help the team I’ll be happy…You always dream of winning; you like to win and compete. I don’t feel like a superhero for winning the World Cup… I’m here to do my bit and to fight for all the competitions,” Alvarez added.
Ever since his move to Manchester City from River Plate back in 2022, Alvarez has gone on to win the Premier League twice and the Champions League, one FA Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup under Pep Guardiola. Now, Alvarez will be seen trying his feet at La Liga, which has already started to build up a strong hype after new names like himself and Kylian Mbappe have come into it.
