A doctor at a hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack was beaten by the relatives of two patients after he was accused of sexually assaulting them, the police said.

The incident happened at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, one of Odisha’s most prestigious healthcare centres, on August 11. The accused doctor works with the Cardiology department.

According to the police, the patients came to the hospital for an electrocardiogram test (ECG). Their relatives claim that the patients were sexually assaulted by the doctor, following which they beat him.

The doctor is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the same hospital.

The matter came to light after a written complaint was filed at Mangalabag Police station.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Mishra said a case has been registered against the doctor for sexually assaulting the two patients.

“The statements of the patients will be recorded in accordance with legal procedures. As both the patients and accused are admitted to the hospital, their statements will be recorded once they recover.”
