The Pakistan Cricket Board opted to host the 2nd Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh without any spectators. The National Stadium will be hosting the second Test match behind closed doors, a move reminiscent to the Covid-19 precautionary measures. PCB informed that the decision was taken in regards to the ongoing construction at the venue ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan next year. The Pakistan Cricket Board has allocated approximately 17 billion rupees for upgrading its stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi ahead of the ICC event.

“We understand the vital role that our passionate spectators play in cricket, providing inspiration and motivation to our players. However, the health and safety of our fans is our utmost priority,” the board said in a statement.

Why no spectators for PAK vs BAN 2nd Test?

The ticket sales of the 2nd Test match have been suspended with immediate effect, which is scheduled to be played from August 30th to September 3. The PCB informed that the fans who have already purchased the tickets will be provided with refunds.

“After careful consideration of all available options, we have decided that the safest course of action is to hold the second Test in front of an empty stadium.” The board said.

“Fans who have already purchased tickets will receive a full refund automatically, with the amount credited to the account details provided at the time of purchase,” the board said.

The funds for reconstruction of the venues were approved by PCB’s Board of Governors in Lahore at a meeting. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also told the BOG members that the Champions Trophy would be held entirely in Pakistan and it would be further discussed at the ICC’s annual board meeting in Colombo later this month.

Pakistan gears up to host Champions Trophy 2025

The meeting was held primarily to approve the PCB budget for 2024-25 with Pakistan scheduled to host Bangladesh, England, and West Indies in the season besides a tri-series before the CT and also touring Australia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

Naqvi informed the BOG members that upgradation work on the stadiums had begun as the Board wanted to improve the facilities for the spectators and turn the venues into A-class stadiums.

“While we deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause, we want to assure our valued fans that the ongoing stadium upgrades are aimed at enhancing their experience. The renovations are part of our commitment to making the venue more spectator-friendly and preparing it for the Champions Trophy.”

Pakistan will host Bangladesh for two-match Test series, with the opening match scheduled to kickstart from August 21 in Rawalpindi.
