Google has finally launched its new smartphone line-up — the Pixel 9 series. During the Made by Google event, the company unveiled all about the hardware and software updates in the Google universe. The Google Pixel 9 series includes 4 devices, namely Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The event unfolds by taking the audience through Google’s AI, Gemini. The recently launched smartphones are also deeply integrated with Gemini. It is true that Google has shared Gemini with other Android phones as well, but the Google Pixel 9 series has more to offer. The series has several exclusive Gemini features that aim to improve the user experience. Let’s take an in-depth look at the smartphone recently released by Google.
Google Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold launched: Top specs and features
Google Pixel 9: This smartphone is the vanilla variant and is the most affordable of all. The Pixel 9 features a 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels and a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 60Hz to 120Hz, ensuring smooth visuals and responsive touch interactions. The panel has 1800nits of local brightness and 2700nits of peak brightness. The screen is also protected by top-end Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 coating. Under the hood, the Pixel 9 is powered by Google’s Tensor G4 processor, paired with the Titan M2 security coprocessor, promising not only fast performance but also multi-layer hardware security. Google says the device comes with anti-malware and anti-phishing protection.
For optics, the device continues this tradition with its dual rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel wide lens and a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens. The device supports Super Res Zoom up to 8x, allowing users to capture detailed images even from a distance.
It packs a 4700mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging, and it is also compatible with wireless charging. The wired charger is sold separately, just like previous Pixel phones. The Pixel 9 comes with 12GB of RAM and offers storage options of 128GB and 256GB. It runs on Android 14 and promises 7 years of Android OS and security updates, so you are getting long-term software support.
Google Pixel 9 Pro: Next up, a little more advanced model, Pixel 9 Pro features a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED panel with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 coating, a higher resolution of 1280 x 2856 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate that can range from 1Hz to 120Hz. The primary camera setup also includes a 50-megapixel Octa PD wide camera and a 48-megapixel Quad PD ultrawide camera.
There is no change in the battery area. Pixel 9 Pro also has a 4700mAh battery, and the device supports both 45W wired, just like the Pixel 9. The wireless charging support is also available here. The Pixel 9 Pro is equipped with 16GB of RAM and offers storage capacities from 128GB up to 1TB.
Google Pixel 9 Pro XL: Now that the transition from Pixel 9 to 9 Pro did not change the size, Google has introduced another model that has a bigger size than the standard and Pro model. It features a larger 6.8-inch 24-bit LTPO OLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 coating and a resolution of 1344 x 2992 pixels. Like its Pro sibling, it is powered by the Tensor G4 processor and features the same triple rear camera system, capable of achieving 30x Super Res Zoom.
Not just the size, it also has a relatively larger battery with a 5,060mAh battery. Google claims that the device can charge up to 70 percent in 30 minutes using its charger. The device is available with 16GB of RAM and is being offered in a wide range of storage options, including 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold: Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, compared to the previous generation Pixel Fold, boasts a taller and slimmer design. It sports a 6.3-inch cover display and an 8-inch Super Actua Flex inner display. Google says it is “the largest display ever on a phone”.
The external screen has a resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels at 422 ppi. The display reaches a peak brightness of up to 1800 nits in HDR and up to 2700 nits peak brightness.
