Google has unveiled the Pixel 9 Pro Fold at the Made by Google event. This is the company’s second-generation foldable smartphone. The first-gen Pixel Fold was announced last year in May and was eventually launched in June. However, it never made it to the Indian market. And that is why the Made by Google event this time is a little special for Indian audiences. For the first time, Google is bringing its foldable smartphone to India. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold will officially launch in India tomorrow, August 14.
Google has also launched Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL in India, along with Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2.
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold price in India announced
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes in a sole variant and will cost users in India Rs 1,72,999. However, Google has yet to announce the availability and booking details for the foldable smartphone for users in India. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has been announced in Obsidian and Porcelain colour variants. But what we already know is that besides being available on Flipkart, which is usually the official retail partner for Google, this time, the Pixel smartphones will also be available on Flipkart, Reliance Digital, and Croma.
Additionally, Google is opening three walk-in Google service centres in India. Of these, one will be opened in New Delhi and the other in Bengaluru. Both these stores will be opening now. The third store will be opened in Mumbai at a later date. It is also worth noting, that irrespective of where a Google device was bought, Google says repair services for all models available in India, will be available at all stores in India. This means, if you bought a Pixel device that is available in India, from the US, you will still be able to get complete repair services for that phone at the service centres in India.
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a larger display, slimmer body
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, compared to the previous generation Pixel Fold, boasts a taller and slimmer design. It sports a 6.3-inch cover display and an 8-inch Super Actua Flex inner display. Google says it is “the largest display ever on a phone”.
The external screen has a resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels at 422 ppi. The display reaches a peak brightness of up to 1800 nits in HDR and up to 2700 nits peak brightness. As for the internal display, it is a 2076 x 2152 resolution OLED screen with 373 ppi. It uses an ultra thin glass and has a refresh rate up to 120Hz. The inner screen has up to 1600 nits HDR support and up to 2700 nits peak brightness. Both displays support HDR and both are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 5.1mm when unfolded and 10.5mm when folded. This is thinner than the OnePlus Open, measures at 5.9mm when open, and 11.9mm when unfolded.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is powered by the same G4 Tensor chip that we saw on the previous gen foldable by the tech giant. The Pixel foldable smartphone also comes with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. It also has an upgraded camera system with a 48-megapixel wide camera, 10.5-megapixel ultrawide lens, and 10.8-megapixel telephoto sensor with 5x optical zoom and up to 20x Super Res Zoom.
On the front, both external and internal cameras use a 10-megapixel dual-PD camera with Æ/2.2 aperture and 87-degree ultrawide field of view.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold sports IPX8 rating, which means that it is water-resistant. The foldable has a “new” hinge which is made from stainless steel with an “aerospace-grade, high-strength aluminium alloy cover” for durability.
Powering the smartphone is, says Google, a more than 24-hour battery life, and “up to 72-hour battery life with Extreme Battery Saver. It features a 4650 mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. It also supports Qi-certified wireless charging.
Google says on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, you will be able to use Gemini with Split Screen to multitask effectively, allowing you to interact with Gemini while simultaneously managing what’s on your screen or in your photos. For example, you can find recipes based on what’s in your fridge.
