The minor accused of killing two people after ramming his Porsche car, in an intoxicated state, into a motorbike in Pune on May 19, has completed a 15-day safe driving program as directed by a court.
Two IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh died in the incident, which occurred in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar and sparked nationwide outrage. Public sentiment was further inflamed after the Juvenile Justice Board’s (JJB) granted bail to the accused on lenient terms and revealed revelations of an attempted cover-up by the accused’s family and certain medical professionals.
As the accused was released on bail by JJB, among the conditions that were placed on him was that he had to submit a 300-word essay on road accidents. He was also asked to take help from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to study traffic rules and regulations.
The minor submitted the essay in July.
“The juvenile accused completed the safe driving program with the RTO. With respect to the guidelines of the court, the operation was kept discreet as it could have led to an issue of privacy for the juvenile,” a top RTO official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI in its report.
“The training program included road driving safety measures, the importance of a driving licence, the meaning of road signals and symbols, and other activities. During the process, the juvenile was also taken for on-field training,” the official added.
