West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday said that the rape-murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata had been mishandled. The doctor was brutally raped and murdered inside the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

While expressing deep concern about the current situation in the state, Governor Bose said that he was not satisfied with the investigation of Kolkata Police. The case has been transferred from Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

When asked about the state government’s dealing with the situation, Governor Bose said, “The government has failed to handle the situation.”

He assured that people would get justice as the CBI had taken over the case.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Sunday took note of the incident and will hear the matter on Tuesday. Noting that the Supreme Court will hear the matter, Governor Bose said, “We expect something good will come out.”

Earlier, speaking exclusively to India Today, the Bengal Governor said the Kolkata hospital has become a “school of scandals”.

“I have received a lot of complaints about the things happening in the hospital. RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has become a school of scandals. What we see is the tip of the iceberg,” he added.

When asked about rumours over the issue, he urged people to be vigilant about misinformation and rumours. “Rumour mongers should be treated,” he said.

Earlier in the day, several women doctors, representatives from the LGBT community, and others tied rakhis around the Governor’s wrists.
