Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has said that Rodri will miss the Premier League opener against Chelsea as the Spanish midfielder continues his recovery from injury. Rodri had limped off the field at half-time during Spain’s Euro 2024 final against England and wasn’t a part of pre-season for City ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking ahead of the crucial opening day match against Chelsea, Guardiola, while talking to the reporters said that Rodri is yet to train with the team. The City boss said that the Spaniard does feel good at the moment but they will see how his body starts to feel in the coming days.

“He didn’t train. I didn’t see him yet. I think he feels good, but we will see when he starts to move his body how he feels.”

“But no chance [for Chelsea],” said Guardiola.

The City boss also remained coy on when Rodri will be returning to the side as the Spaniard played a big role in the side’s 4th straight Premier League title last season.

Guardiola’s update on Oscar Bobb

City were given a massive blow ahead of the new season as Oscar Bobb suffered a fractured leg during training and is expected to be out for at least 3 to 4 months. Guardiola has said that the youngster will now undergo surgery and will hopefully make a quick return.

“It was in the training session and unfortunately he had a big impact and is injured,” the City boss said.

“He will have surgery and hopefully he will be well and we welcome him back as soon as possible in three, four months.

“We are so sad for him, but not because he was making an incredible pre-season, because that doesn’t matter, when [the] injury is a long time it is a problem and we’re looking forward to seeing him again as soon as possible.

“A good recovery as quick as possible and that’s all.”

When it came to new signings, Guardiola once again kept his cards close to his chest.

“Maybe, or maybe not! We’ll see I’m really pleased with the squad we have. I know the vibe is, ‘We have to sign! We have to sign!’ We will see,” said Guardiola.

City will face Chelsea on August 18, Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
