Tarang Shakti marks a significant milestone as it is the first time the German Air Force is conducting an exercise with the Indian Air Force. The exercise also involves the French, Spanish and Royal Air Forces, showcasing a unique collaboration amongst four European nations alongside India. “It’s the first time ever that the German Air Force had an exercise together with the Indian Air Force, and it’s really great that we’re doing it alongside the French, Spanish, and Royal Air Forces. This is a significant step in international military co-operation.” he remarked on the importance of this collaboration. “We prove that even if you have different systems and procedures, you can always learn from each other.” he emphasised.
“Two years ago, during the Pitch Black exercise in Australia, we realised the potential of working together in the Indo-Pacific. This time, we decided to make it even bigger with Pacific Skies, a global initiative involving five exercises, with Tarang Shakti as the final and most crucial segment.”, he explained, reflecting on the broader strategy behind the exercise.
GLOBAL SECURITY CHALLENGES AND THE FUTURE OF MILITARY COLLABORATION
The discussion also touched on global security issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Israel-Hamas war. General Gerhartz underscored the exercise’s role in promoting regional stability, noting, “This exercise is not against anybody. It is in favour of our partners. We show that we are committed to free and open Indo-Pacific partnerships.” When asked about the potential concerns from other nations, he responded, “Nobody should feel threatened because we are simply proving that we can work together.”
On the topic of cybersecurity, General Gerhartz highlighted the critical importance of protecting military operations in the digital age. “Societies nowadays are so heavily dependent on digital means that we are all susceptible to cyber threats. Armed forces like ours must ensure robust protection of our systems,” he said.
