Southern Braves and former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard hit the popular gunpoint celebration inspired by Turkish Paris Olympics hero Yusuf Dikec during his side’s clash in The Hundred Final against Oval Invincibles on August 19. After taking an easy catch to dismiss Invincibles’ Donovan Ferreira, Pollard celebrated the wicket with the viral celebration of the Turkish silver medal-winner at the Paris Olympics.
Pollard’s celebration attracted a lot of hype on social media, which only extended the same around what has been turned into a sensation because of Dikec’s celebration amongst the sports fraternity. The celebration is inspired from Dikec’s simple but effective shooting technique the athlete showcased at the Paris Games, which became viral on social media because of how effortless the Turkish shooter made his attempts look. Apart from Pollard, his teammate Akeal Hossein also dropped the same celebration after taking the wicket of Sam Curran.
On the other hand, both Pollard and his side, The Southern Brave, did not have a good outing in the Final, after losing the clash after what had been a thriller of an encounter. Individually, too, Pollard had a night to forget after getting dismissed for a four-ball duck in the Final.
Due to the bowling brilliance of Saqib Mahmood, who had just made a return from a big injury, the Brave triumphed over the Invincibles by 17 runs to become the first back-to-back champions of the franchise league.
