Watch: Rohit Sharma revels in T20 World Cup triumph to celebrate Independence Day

India captain Rohit Sharma celebrated his 78th Independence Day by savouring India’s recent T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. Notably, Rohit led India to their second T20 World Cup triumph in West Indies beating South Africa by seven runs. After opting to bat first, India posted a good score of 176/7 in their allotted 20 overs with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 76 (59).

In reply, South Africa could only manage to score 169/8 in their 20 overs handing India a thrilling win. As a result, India won their second T20 World Cup and ended their 11-year-long drought for an ICC Trophy. Recalling the victory on Independence Day, India captain Rohit Sharma shared a video of him celebrating the triumph from the bus top in Mumbai as he waves the national tricolour.

Rohit had the perfect ending to his T20I career as he finished as the second-highest run scorer of the T20 World Cup 2024. The right-handed batter scored 257 runs from eight innings at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.70 with three fifties.

Rohit’s fairytale ending to T20I career

Rohit’s highest score of the tournament came against Australia as he played a breathtaking knock of 92 (41) with the help of seven fours and eight sixes. The Indian skipper smacked Mitchell Starc for his most expensive over in international cricket whacking 28 runs against him.

The 37-year-old also finished as the highest run scorer of T20Is with 4231 runs to his name from 151 innings at an average of 32.05 and a strike rate of 140.89 with a joint-record five hundred and 32 fifties.

Meanwhile, Rohit continued his incredible form in the ODI series against Sri Lanka scoring 157 runs from three innings at an average of 52.33. The India captain was instrumental in getting his team off to explosive starts. However, the rest of the batters failed to support him and India ended up losing their first series against Sri Lanka since 1997.
